JOINT BASE LANGLEY-EUSTIS, Va. – Members from the 192nd Fighter Wing came together to recognize and honor the achievements of the Fighter Wing “Airmen of the Year” during the third annual holiday banquet and awards event, Dec. 6, 2014 at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia.

Airmen from the 192nd FW Maintenance, Medical, Mission Support, Operations, and staff groups were recognized by Col. Robert J. Grey, 192nd FW commander, for their efforts and achievements in 2014. Each group honored their respective airmen followed with awards of the “Top Airmen” for the Fighter Wing.

Earning the Outstanding Airmen award was Senior Airman Zachary D. Bombay, 192nd Intelligence Squadron, while Staff Sgt. Winston B. Obermuller, 192nd Supply Chain Operations Squadron, was honored as the noncommissioned officer of the year. Master Sgt. Hector Rosado, 149th Fighter Squadron, was awarded as the senior noncommissioned officer of the year, and Master Sgt. Tanya A. Conrad distinguished herself by winning the First Sergeant of the Year for the Fighter Wing.

“We have so many outstanding Airmen in the wing, the competition was fierce,” said Grey. “But, these four really distinguished themselves with their hard work and individual achievement. I’m glad we could come together and recognize their successes. Ultimately, this reflects not only their own accomplishments but the tremendous teamwork of all the Airmen in the Wing.”

As part of the awards ceremony, wing members continued with the tradition of contending for the “best dressed table” competition. This year, tables were decorated with a variety of themes, including aircraft and airfields, Marvel Super Heroes, Virginia Tech football and holiday themes. The Student Flight served as judges for the competition and selected the Maintenance Group as the “Outstanding Virginia Air Guard Spirit Award” for their “Extreme” Airfield Maintenance themed table.

Wing members continued with their theme of giving back to the community by generously donating more than 540 pounds of canned food. The food was donated to the Virginia Peninsula Food Bank. Angeli Wade, Airmen and Family Program director, expressed her sincere gratitude to the Airmen who donated food to restock the shelves for local residents in need and to the volunteers who helped with the collection and delivery of the food following the awards event.

The annual event is a favorite for 192nd FW members. It brings Airmen together from across the base to rekindle friendships, enjoy food and fellowship, and recognize the achievements of their colleagues.
