Grey takes command of 192nd Fighter Wing

SANDSTON, Va. — Col. Robert J. Grey took command of the Virginia Air National Guard’s 192d Fighter Wing located at Joint Base Langley-Eustis effective May 29, 2014, according to an announcement made by Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Long, Jr., the Adjutant General of Virginia.

Grey assumes command from Col. Thomas K. Wark who is deploying in support of Operation Enduring Freedom to serve as the vice commander of the 9th Air and Space Expeditionary Task Force and will return to continue service with the National Guard Bureau. Wark commanded the wing since March 4, 2012.

“Col. Wark’s tenure as the 192nd FW commander is marked with significant accomplishments and outstanding leadership of Airmen,” Long said in the announcement. He said that Grey “brings a wealth of knowledge to his new assignment” and he is “confident he will continue to excel as the commander of the 192nd FW.”

Grey has served in the Air Force for more than 23 years, 12 of those with the Virginia Air National Guard. Grey commanded the 192d Maintenance Group since April 16, 2011. He has more than 3,300 flying hours as a command pilot in multiple U. S. Air Force aircraft.
