SANDSTON, Va. – The Adjutant General of Virginia, Maj. Gen. Daniel E. Long, Jr., visited the annual staff meeting and training event held by the Virginia National Guard Family Programs Office, held Dec. 4, 2013, in Sandston, Va. During his visit, Long recognized several of the staff members and recognized them for their successes and achievements over the past year.

“That’s for what you do,” Long said. “We didn’t have this before. When I deployed, my wife took me, put me on an airplane and said, ‘See you in a year.’ I didn’t have folks that put together these kinds of gatherings that came and welcomed us back or that came saw us off, so it’s great to have you all and it’s a very important part of what we do.”

Long presented coins and letters of thanks to Kay Baber, family programs specialist; Sgt. 1st Class Thomas Cleveland, noncommissioned officer in charge of the Yellow Ribbon Program; Julia Alaric, state family readiness support assistant; Rosa Pratt, family readiness support assistant; Tammy Adams and Jamie Kinkead, both family assistance center specialists; Angeli Wade, Airman and Family Readiness Program manager; Christine Valdez, Air National Guard Yellow Ribbon Program manager; and Kaye Carney, Military OneSource consultant.

Additionally, letters of thanks were also presented to Melody McGhee, Terese Donovan and Jacqueline Harcros, all family readiness support assistants; Aaron Marin, family assistance center coordinator; family assistance center specialists Jessica Waddell, Robyn Fuller, Julie Shibusawa, Teresa Merritt, and Cindy Shelton; Drew Davis, state Youth Program coordinator; Allison Mecadon, youth coordinator; Debbie Jordon and Cindy Blevins, military family life counselors; and Beth Vallejo, personal financial counselor.

“It’s amazing work that you do,” said Command Sgt. Maj. Dennis Green, Virginia National Guard senior enlisted leader. “Thank you very much. Those people, in times of need, are so appreciative of what you do.”
