LANGLEY AIR FORCE BASE, Va. — The Virginia Air National Guard’s 192nd Fighter Wing received F-22 Raptor tail number 09-0192 from Lockheed Martin March 22, and the new aircraft will serve as the wing’s flagship aircraft. Col. David Nardi, commander of the 192nd Operations Group, delivered the plane to Col. Thomas K. Wark, commander of the 192nd Fighter Wing, at Langley Air Force Base.

“The F-22 flagship is an important symbol to the Air Guard members and represents our proud history of the citizen Soldier, the 192nd Fighter Wing and the Virginia Air National Guard,” said Nardi. “I appreciate the support we receive from our active duty counter parts in the 1FW to make the 192d flagship a reality. Our total force partnership is second to none and combines the best of the Regular AF and the Air National Guard.”

The Maintenance and Operations Groups of the 192nd Fighter Wing were recently selected for an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award for their accomplishments over the past two years. The groups are being recognized as a result of consistent, high-level performance, dedication to the mission, and the ability to thrive as a classic association with the 1st Fighter Wing in today’s total force construct.
