The Virginia National Guard has several premier ceremonial units that include the 29th Division Band, Regimental Color Guard Teams and the Military Funeral Honor Guard.


29th Division Band

The 29th Division Band provides musical support for the leadership of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to include all branches of government, and to a wide spectrum of local, regional and national events in support of Soldiers and their Families, public diplomacy, community and international relations, recruiting initiatives, and music education programs.

Color Guard

The color guard, a five-man unit, is comprised of two armed Guards and three color ensigns, who carry the National Color, the U.S. Army Color, and the Color of their parent unit. A solemn part of any civic of military function, the presentation of the National Color assumes a special patriotic and historic significance especially when borne by the members of the Virginia National Guard.

Funeral Honor Guard

The rendering of Military Funeral Honors is a way to show the nation’s deep gratitude to those who, in times of war and peace, have faithfully defended our country. This ceremonial paying of respect is the final demonstration a grateful nation can provide to the veteran’s family.

Parades

A hometown military presence has been a long tradition in community parades. Troops in formation or vehicles pay tribute to the community’s investment in national defense.

Requests for Troops in formation or vehicles are require a minimum of a 90-day notice prior to the event.

Submitting Your Request

Requests for Virginia National Guard support and the thoroughly completed DD Form 2536 should be submitted directly to the Virginia National Guard via e-mail to ngva.pao@mail.mil.

In order to request a ceremonial unit, you must thoroughly complete a Dept. of Defense Form 2536. You must have the form:

  • completed and signed by the sponsoring organization
  • certified and signed by the event site owner
  • submit the form

Requests should be completed, signed and submitted no less than 90 days in advance of the event. Incomplete forms and requests will not be considered. The Virginia National Guard Public Affairs Office determines whether the event is eligible for support.
