DMV 2 Go, VA Mobile Vet Center on hand to assist 1710th Soldiers as they prepare to mobilize
Posted on April 3, 2013 | No CommentsEMPORIA, Va. — Representatives in mobile offices from the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles were among those on hand to provide support and assistance to the deploying Soldiers of the Virginia Army National Guard’s 1710th Transportation Company, April 2 in Emporia, Va. The VA provided one of their 20 Mobile Vet Centers to support the Soldiers and family members of the 1710th. The vehicles are equipped with confidential counseling space and a state of the art communication package. They travel to communities throughout the country to extend the VA’s reach to veterans, servicemembers and their families and inform them of the many benefits and services the VA provides. Posted on February 26, 2013 | No CommentsFORT PICKETT, Va. – Canadian reservists hailing from the Halifax, Nova Scotia-based 36 Canadian Brigade Group descended on Fort Pickett Feb. 17 to take part in Exercise Southbound Trooper. Southbound Trooper, held for the 13th consecutive year at Fort Pickett, is a Canadian-led, joint, multinational exercise designed to bring U.S. and Canadian forces together in a complex training environment. “Our backgrounds and what we do seems to be the same and we’re even fighting the same wars together,” said Lt. Va. Guard Soldiers earn civilian credit for military experience
Posted on January 11, 2013 | No CommentsSANDSTON, Va. – Virginia National Guard Soldiers have an easier way to translate their military driving skills into civilian credentials thanks to a program called Troops to Trucks that’s helped several Soldiers find employment. In 2012, the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles started the program, which simplifies the process of obtaining a commercial driver’s license for those military members with adequate driving experience gained through the military. “One of my Soldiers was able to get a job about three weeks later,” Capt. Connelly Awards for Excellence in Army Food Service Nov. 2 at Fort Pickett. Virginia Guard personnel preparing for possible Hurricane Sandy recovery operations
Posted on October 26, 2012 | No CommentsSANDSTON, Va. — The Virginia National Guard has been authorized to bring up to 300 personnel on state active duty for possible severe weather recovery operations from Hurricane Sandy. The Virginia Guard will begin staging approximately 50 Army Guard and Virginia Defense Force personnel in the Eastern Shore area in order to be ready to support potential response missions, and all personnel are scheduled to be in place by Saturday evening. Additional personnel have been alerted for possible duty and will be held in reserve for possible future missions. Posted on October 4, 2011 | No CommentsFORT PICKETT, Va. — Soldiers from the Gate City-based 1032nd Transportation Company, 1030th Transportation Battalion, 329th Regional Support Group prepared a lunch meal Oct. 1 at Fort Pickett for the national-level Philip A. Connelly Awards for Excellence in Army Food Service in the Army National Guard Field Kitchen Category. Virginia is one of seven regional winners competing for the national-level award. The Soldiers set up several tents around the mobile kitchen trailer where they spent a week preparing for the competition. In addition to preparing and serving food, the Soldiers also had an area where they could wash dishes, focus on field sanitation and an area for dining during the meal.
