SANDSTON, Va. — Thanksgiving Day is a time for us to gather together, reconnect with family and friends, and pause from the demands of our work to reflect on how fortunate we are. We also take this time to honor and show gratitude for our freedoms as Americans and the privilege we have of serving our great nation and commonwealth.

I am honored to serve you as the Adjutant General of Virginia and personally feel a tremendous sense of pride in the continued service of every member of our Virginia National Guard team and the vital role we all play in being ready to accomplish both our state and federal missions.

Every Soldier, Airman, Virginia Defense Force member, state and federal civilian employee and family member is a key part of our team, and we must all ensure we are ready for duty when the holiday is over.

We all need to look out for our battle buddies, wingmen and co-workers this Thanksgiving. Remember that everyone serves a critical role in our organization and we need you back safe and ready for the challenges that lay ahead.

Finally, let us always remember that many of our Virginia Guard Soldiers and Airmen are serving away from home alongside other members of the Armed Forces this Thanksgiving. Please keep them and their families in your thoughts and prayers and be thankful for the service and sacrifice they are making to help keep us safe.

I am thankful for all of you and your families. My wife Cheryl and I are honored to extend our best wishes for a safe and joyous Thanksgiving holiday.
