Zollar to command 183rd RTI, other senior officer moves announced

SANDSTON, Va. — Col. James A. Zollar will succeed Col. Thomas L. Morgan, III, as the commander of the Fort Pickett-based 183rd Regiment, Regional Training Institute according to an announcement made by April 20, 2016, Maj. Gen. Timothy P. Williams, the Adjutant General of Virginia. Williams also announced that Col. Bryan J. Coleman has been selected to serve as the Virginia Army National Guard training and operations officer, and Lt. Col. Garland H. Goodrich will serve as the director of personnel for Joint Force Headquarters – Virginia.

“These officers have demonstrated exceptional leadership qualities expected of only our most senior officers,” Williams said in the announcement. “I am assigning these officers to colonel positions within the Virignia Army National Guard with the utmost confidence and highest expectations.”

Zollar and Morgan both work full time for the Virginia National Guard, and Coleman and Goodrich are both traditional Guard Soldiers who normally serve one weekend a month and 15 days of annual training. Zollar will continue to serve full time as the Virginia Army National Guard training and operations officer, then command 183rd RTI in a traditional Guard status. Morgan serves as the Virginia National Guard joint operations officer, and will now serve in that position in a traditional Guard status as well.

Coleman most recently served as the joint operations officer in a traditional Guard status, and Goodrich served as the future operations officer in the joint operations office, also in a traditional Guard status.

The effective date for Goodrich’s reassignment is May 1. All other moves are scheduled to be effective July 1.
